American tennis player Malaika Rapolu is set to break into the WTA Top 300 following an impressive quarterfinal run at the ITF W100 Templeton slam in California.

Entering the tournament ranked WTA No. 313, the 2024 Texas Longhorns graduate opened her campaign on September 30 in a highly anticipated collegiate clash. Rapolu faced off against current Longhorns #1 and NCAA #2 singles player, Carmen Andreea Herea (ROU, WTA 485). Rapolu comfortably dispatched her successor 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the Round of 16.

On October 1, Rapolu secured a significant upset over the tournament’s No. 5 seed, Akasha Urhobo (WTA 179). Continuing to build momentum on the ITF circuit, Rapolu delivered a commanding 6-1, 6-3 victory over Urhobo in one hour and 15 minutes, pushing closer to potential Australian Open qualifying contention.

Rapolu’s run concluded in the quarterfinals on October 2 against the top seed, Tatjana Maria (GER, WTA 84). Maria, the heavy tournament favorite, defeated Rapolu 6-0, 6-3 in one hour and 15 minutes to secure the first semifinal spot. Despite the loss, Rapolu’s strong week guarantees her a new career milestone inside the WTA top 300.
