India’s Arnav Paparkar’s run at Wimbledon Boys’ Singles came to an end in the quarter-final, going down 2-6 5-7 to American Jordan Lee.
A Lead Slips Away
Paparkar found himself down an early break in the first set before Lee took control to close it out 6-2. The second set told a different story initially, with Paparkar building a 3-1 lead and looking to level the match. Lee responded from there, reeling off the games needed to close out the set 7-5 and the match with it.
The result extends Lee’s head-to-head record against Paparkar to 3-0, with all three meetings coming in the space of the last two months alone. It’s a rivalry that has so far tilted firmly in the young American’s favour.
A Measure of the Opponent
The defeat came against a player in red-hot form. Lee opened his own campaign with a commanding 6-0 6-2 win over the Junior World No. 6, and at just 16 years old, he holds the distinction of being only the second player born in 2010 to win an ATP point. Paparkar’s run ultimately fell to one of the standout performers of the tournament, a result that speaks to the level of competition he brought to the match.
