Arnav Paparkar

Arnav Paparkar makes history: First Indian in Boys’ Singles Junior Slam QF since 2009

India No. 1 Arnav Paparkar continues his sensational run at Wimbledon Juniors 2026, beating former Junior World No. 4 Ryo Tabata 6-2 6-1 in the third round to book a spot in the Boys’ Singles quarter-final.

A Straight-Sets Statement

Paparkar was in complete control from start to finish, with the world no. 19 needing just over an hour to see off the world no. 30. The scoreline tells its own story, two comfortable sets that never let Tabata find a foothold in the contest.

17 Years in the Making

The result carries weight beyond the match itself. Paparkar becomes the first Indian male since Yuki Bhambri’s run at the 2009 US Open to reach the quarter-final stage of a Boys’ Singles Junior Grand Slam.

The Quarter-Final Test

Paparkar will next face 16-year-old American Jordan Lee (JR 47), who booked his own spot with a comprehensive win over sixth-seeded Yannick Theodor Alexandrescou in the opening round. Lee has been one of the in-form players of the tournament so far.

The pair are no strangers to each other. Lee has won both of their previous meetings, both in straight sets, at J300 Roehampton on grass and J300 Charleroi-Marcinelle on clay, over the past month.

Third Time Lucky?

Two defeats against the same opponent in the space of a month would rattle most, but Paparkar arrives at this quarter-final with a different kind of form and a different stage. The rematch is set for Thursday, 9 July, around 5 PM IST, with a semi-final berth on the line.
