Indian teenager Maaya Rajeshwaran continued her impressive run at the ITF J300 Bamberg tournament in Germany, booking her place in the girls’ singles final with a straight-sets victory over Italy’s Ilary Pistola.
The 17-year-old delivered another composed performance, defeating Pistola 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals. Maaya controlled the key moments of the match, using her aggressive baseline game and consistency to keep the Italian under pressure throughout the contest.
With the win, Maaya advances to her second J300 final of the season and moves one step closer to capturing one of the biggest junior titles of her career.
The Indian, currently ranked No. 30 in the ITF Junior Rankings and No. 1070 in the WTA Rankings, has enjoyed an excellent week in Bamberg. Along the way, she has recorded victories over home favourite Emily Victoria Eigelsbach and Austrian junior Anna Pircher before overcoming Pistola in the last four.
Awaiting Maaya in the championship match is third seed Polina Skliar of Ukraine. The 15-year-old junior star, ranked No. 31 in the world, earned her place in the final with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 victory over top seed and Junior World No. 12 Mariella Thamm of Germany.
The title clash promises to be an exciting battle between two of the most promising young players on the junior circuit. While Skliar arrives with confidence after her emphatic semifinal win, Maaya has shown remarkable consistency and resilience throughout the tournament.
With the trophy now within reach, the Indian teenager stands just one victory away from adding a prestigious J300 title to her growing list of achievements and further strengthening her position among the world’s top junior players.
