THE ALL ENGLAND CLUB ANNOUNCES OPERATIONAL UPDATES FOR
THE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2025
- Adjustment to The Championships final weekend schedule, with the doubles finals to commence at 1pm and singles finals at 4pm.
- Live Electronic Line Calling will be adopted at The Championships from 2025.
- Updates come following the closure of the Wimbledon Public Ballot application period, which received a record number of entries for the third successive year.
London, UK, Wednesday 9 October 2024: The All England Lawn Tennis Club and the Committee of Management of The Championships today announced two operational updates ahead of the 138th staging of The Championships, from 30 June – 13 July 2025.
Adjustment to Final Weekend Schedule
The provisional schedule for The Championships final weekend has been adjusted, with the gentlemen’s and ladies’ doubles finals to commence at 1pm, followed by the ladies’ and gentlemen’s singles finals at 4pm, on the second Saturday and Sunday respectively.
The schedule for the singles semi-finals will not change and the mixed doubles final will continue to be provisionally scheduled for the third match on the second Thursday.
Sally Bolton, Chief Executive of the All England Club, commented: “We have adjusted the provisional schedule for the final weekend of The Championships with the ambition of improving the experience for all involved. The doubles players competing in the finals will have increased certainty over their schedule and fans will enjoy each day’s play as it builds towards the crescendo of the ladies’ and gentlemen’s singles finals, with our champions being crowned in front of the largest possible worldwide audience.”
Adoption of Live Electronic Line Calling
Live Electronic Line Calling (Live ELC) will be adopted at The Championships from 2025. The officiating technology will be in place for all Championships and Qualifying match courts and cover the ‘out’ and ‘fault’ calls that have previously been made by line umpires.
These changes will see the introduction of Electronic Line Calling technology at the Wimbledon Qualifying Competition venue for the first time.
The decision to adopt Live ELC was made following the successful completion of extensive testing during this year’s Championships and builds on the existing ball tracking and line calling technology that has been in place for many years.
“The decision to introduce Live Electronic Line Calling at The Championships was made following a significant period of consideration and consultation,” Bolton commented.
“Having reviewed the results of the testing undertaken at The Championships this year, we consider the technology to be sufficiently robust and the time is right to take this important step in seeking maximum accuracy in our officiating. For the players, it will offer them the same conditions they have played under at a number of other events on tour.
“We take our responsibility to balance tradition and innovation at Wimbledon very seriously. Line umpires have played a central role in our officiating set-up at The Championships for many decades and we recognise their valuable contribution and thank them for their commitment and service.”
Wimbledon Public Ballot receives record number of applications
The Wimbledon Public Ballot – having first been held in 1924 – continues to be hugely popular with fans from the UK and around the world seeking tickets for The Championships. The application period closed last month with a record number of fans registering for their chance to attend The Championships 2025. In addition to strong interest domestically, the Ballot also received high numbers of applications from fans in the US, Italy, Ireland and Germany. Notifications to applicants who are lucky in the Public Ballot will commence later this month.
