In a tournament where new doubles rules are being tried out for the first time, top seeds and last year’s finalists Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden lost in straight sets to the American-Australian pairing of Sebastian Korda and Jordan Thompson, losing 6-7(4) 5-7 in a tight match.

With this loss, Bopanna drops down to 4th in the Live ATP Doubles Rankings.

Rajeev Ram also bows out

Indian-American Rajeev Ram, playing with a new partner in Marcelo Melo, also lost in the opening round to Gonzalo Escobar and Aleksandr Nedovyesov 6-4 3-6 8-10.
