After a first round exit at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, Indian legend Rohan Bopanna will drop to No.2 in the ATP Doubles Rankings to be released on Monday, 15th April. Interestingly, Bopanna will be overtaken by his doubles partner Matthew Ebden as the new World No.1.

One might wonder how Ebden can overtake his own doubles partner in the rankings. The answer is simple. Ebden played several extra events in 2023 with other partners, while Bopanna was resting, enabling him to create a larger repository of ranking points.

The extra events Ebden played in 2023 include the ATP 250 Eastbourne Open on grass with John-Patrick Smith (90 points) and the ATP 500 Washington Open on hard with Juan Sebastian Cabal (90 points).
