Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal received a much-needed boost on Friday as former Andhra cricketer V. Chamundeswaranath pledged a sponsorship of Rs 10 lakh. The announcement came during the prize distribution ceremony of the FNCC AITA men’s tennis tournament held in Hyderabad.
This timely aid comes after Nagal, currently India’s No. 1 singles player, expressed financial struggles that were hindering his participation in upcoming tournaments. Chamundeswaranath’s gesture aims to bridge this gap and empower Nagal to continue his development in the sport.
The presentation unfolded in the presence of tennis legend Sania Mirza and C.V. Anand, IPS officer and Director General of ACB, who is also a tennis enthusiast and former cricketer. This act of sportsmanship from Chamundeswaranath highlights the importance of supporting promising athletes as they strive to achieve their full potential.
Nagal’s financial constraints stemmed from the high costs associated with maintaining a coaching staff and traveling for tournaments. Despite his achievements, the current funding structure left him with limited resources.
Chamundeswaranath’s sponsorship offers a vital lifeline to Nagal’s career. This financial support will allow him to focus on training and competing without the burden of financial worry. The tennis fraternity hopes that this act of generosity will inspire others to come forward and support deserving athletes.
