“It’s been many years since I visited India” – Djokovic

Novak Djokovic and Rohan Bopanna are the oldest singles and doubles World No.1, respectively. The duo were speaking on the sidelines of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters.

In this interview, Novak Djokovic expressed his eagerness to return to India, a country that holds a special place in his heart. “It’s been many years since I’ve been there,” Djokovic remarked, “and I really look forward to experiencing it again.” With India’s burgeoning interest in tennis and its vast population, Djokovic sees the country as an important hub for the sport’s growth and popularity.

Reflecting on Bopanna and him being the oldest No.1’s at the same time, Djokovic highlighted the importance of dedication and hard work. “Experience certainly plays a significant role,” he affirmed, “but it’s also about being devoted and dedicated to the game every single day.” Djokovic praised Indian tennis stalwarts such as Sania Mirza, Mahesh Bhupathi, and Leander Paes for their contributions to the sport and emphasized the role they played in paving the way for future generations.

Djokovic’s sentiments were echoed by Rohan Bopanna, who humorously referred to their combined age of 80 as “old is gold.” Despite the age gap, Bopanna emphasized their continued strength and shared determination to excel on the court.

As the conversation turned towards the prospect of playing in India, Djokovic expressed optimism about the possibility. “Hopefully, we can do something in India soon,” he said, echoing a sentiment shared by many fans eagerly awaiting his return to the country’s courts. With India’s growing prominence in the tennis world, Djokovic sees immense potential for the sport to thrive further in the country.

In closing, Djokovic extended his gratitude to Indian tennis enthusiasts and expressed his anticipation for future opportunities to engage with fans and players alike. “Namaste. Thank you,” he concluded, leaving a message of appreciation and hope for the future of tennis in India.
