97th ranked Sumit Nagal found himself on the wrong side of a hard-fought battle in the final round of qualifying for the Miami Open presented by Itau. Despite a strong start, Nagal was unable to maintain his momentum against the rising star Coleman Wong.

A Great Serving Performance by Wong

Wong, a 19-year-old from Hong Kong training at the esteemed Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar, showcased his big game throughout the match. The match saw Nagal grappling with Wong’s powerful serves, as the young talent unleashed an impressive tally of 16 aces. Despite Nagal’s best efforts, Wong’s resilience proved decisive, particularly in the deciding set where he staved off three break points to secure victory.

For Nagal, the loss serves as a reminder of the challenges and unpredictability inherent in professional tennis, as he had beaten the same opponent in straight sets in Bengaluru just last month. Despite the disappointment, Nagal can take pride in his efforts and use this experience as motivation to continue his pursuit of success on the ATP Tour.

What’s Next for Nagal?

Nagal will now move onto his favorite surface, the clay! He is expected to to be the 4th seed in the big ATP 125 Challenger in Naples, Italy, next week.
