The ITF M25 New Delhi continues to heat up as we enter the heart of the tournament. Today, Tuesday, March 12th, witnessed exciting encounters on the courts with both local favorites and international contenders playing for a spot in the next round.
Karan Singh emerged victorious against compatriot Mukund Sasikumar
In the first round encounter between two highly regarded Indian players, 20 year old Karan Singh got better of 4th seed wildcard Mukund Sasikumar.
In this much anticipated match young Karan held his nerves to win the first set tiebreak before convincingly winning the second set 6-1. He will next take on the winner of the match between qualifier Chirag Duhan and lucky loser Raghav Jaisinghani for a place in the singles QF.
Manish Sureshkumar secures his biggest singles win of the season by upsetting the 2nd seed
In a match which lasted for 2hr 36mins, India’s Manish Sureshkumar get the better of second seed Uzbek player Khumoyun Sultanov. In a topsy-turvy match, world no 329 Sultanov took the first set 6-4 after being down 1-4. Sultanov was serving for the match at 5-4 in second set but Manish showed some amazing resilience to bag 3 straight games and win the set 7-5.
The Indian was again down 2-4 in the third set before eventually winning it 6-4. He will next take on the winner of the match between malaysian Mitsuki Leong and indian qualifier Dev Javia.
Top seed Russian Evgeny Donskoy too strong for wildcard Shivank Bhatnagar
Former world no 65 and the player who has defeated Roger Federer at Dubai, Evgeny Donskoy proved too strong for young Indian wildcard Shivank Bhatnagar. The veteran 33 y/o Donskoy won the match 6-2 6-0. He will next be facing either Kabir Hans or Yash Chaurasia in a battle of qualifiers.
19 Indians in the main draw including 7 qualifiers and 1 Lucky Loser
The spots for all the 8 qualifiers were up for grasp for the Indian players. Rishi Reddy defeated 8th seed in straight sets to book his place in the main draw. In another match which involved a foreign opponent, Vishnu Vardhan went down 0-6 1-6 to the Russian Grigory Shebekin.
Yash Chaurasai came from 1-6 down in the super tiebreaker against top seed Raghav Jaisinghani to win it 11-9 eventually. Jaisinghani got in as a lucky loser and is set to face Chirag Duhan in his first round.
