Rohan Bopanna and Matt Ebden staged a fightback after a slow start, but were ultimately beaten by the in-form pair of Edouard Roger-Vasselin (France) and Santiago Gonzalez (Mexico), 2-6 7-5 7-10. The Mexican-French pair also won the ATP 500 Basel Open last week.
A win here would have made Bopanna/Ebden the number one team in the world. Speaking after the match, Bopanna said “Congratulations to Santi (Gonzalez) and Edu (Roger-Vasselin) for a great week. It’s been a long season. The crowd was great, they were on the home team’s side today, but they’ve been great to us all week. Looking forward to Turin.”
The Indo-Aussie pair will now head to Turin, Italy for the season-ending tournament where the Top 8 doubles teams of the world will compete.
