“It was just not my day. But I am proud of my efforts” – Ankita Raina, after going down to teen phenom Brenda Fruhvirtova

India No.1 Ankita Raina was leading 6-0, 3-0 against the 15 year old Czech phenom Brenda Fruhvirtova before the latter forged a comeback to win the biggest title of her career thus far. Ankita Raina shares her thoughts on the match and the week she has had:

Q) Thoughts on the match and the week

AR – I would say that I am really happy with the week I had. Throughout the tournament, every match it was a similar scoreline. Even in the quarter-final, I was leading 6-1, 4-1 or something. Everyone is out there to win. Something similar happened today. I am happy and proud of the efforts I put in today. It was just not my day.

The way I started, and the first one and a half sets were really good. The things I have been working on, I can see them happening on court – in terms of game and fitness. Of course, there are few things I need to rethink. But overall, I am happy with the week.

Q) Where do you play next?

AR – I will be travelling to Indonesia for two 25K events. So I will be heading right there from here.

Q) What are the things you need to work on?

AR – I think fitness is one part. There were some aspects I wanted to improve, but then covid happened last year. My overall strength dropped. So I had to a lot of strength and conditioning that I did to get back to my previous levels. I would also say my serve needs to improve.
