Ishwari Matere saves 8 MPs to upset Riya Bhatia at ITF $25K Balaji Amines Solapur Open

Local wildcard Ishwari Matere pulled off the biggest win of her career as she came back from 0-5 and 2-6 down in the final set tiebreak to enter the 2nd round of the ITF $25K Balaji Amines Solapur Open.

Meanwhile, 18 year old Sanjana Sirimalla, another wildcard entrant, beat more fancied Jennifer Luikham in straight sets – 64 76. Yet another wildcard, Vaishnavi Adkar, lost in three tight sets to the fast and rising Sahaja Yamalapalli. Zeel Desai beat veteral Sharmada Balu in the only other singles match involving an Indian player for the day.
