Day 3 at Sabarmati Riverfront, V4, tennis courts witnessed finals of both the team events. The men’s and women’s doubles first round is also scheduled for Saturday.
Gujarat women’s team makes a comeback to clinch the Gold medal
The finals didn’t started as Gujarat would have expected as young Vaishnavi Adkar defeated Zeel Desai 6-4 6-2 to give Maharashtra 1-0 lead. Ankita Raina later displayed her experience as she first won her singles match in straight sets and later partnered Vaidehi Chaudhari in the doubles match to ease through against Rutuja and Vaishnavi and grab the Gold for host state. A big support was also seen for the Gujarat team.
Maharashtra defeated SSCB in the finals to claim top spot in men’s team event
Maharashtra team which includes 14 year old Manas Dhamne and experienced Arjun Kadhe was up against Sriram Balaji led Services Sports Control Board. Manas had already left his impact at the National Games as tournament director Mr Sunder Iyer was all praise for him.
Maharashtra won the first match in 3 sets as Manas defeated Faisal 3-6 6-3 7-5 and in the next singles Arjun defeated Ishaque in straight sets 6-2 6-3 hence clinching the Gold whereas SSCB has to settle with Silver.
Medal ceremony for both the events was held later
