I am so happy that Rohan is playing at this level where he is a legit contender for Grand Slam title – Sania Mirza

Sania Mirza / Lucie Hradecka bowed out in the 3rd round of the French Open Womens doubles draw with a 46 36 loss to Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula.

Sania Mirza spoke to the media in the press room and shared her thoughts

Thoughts on the match

It was a high quality match. We were just not able to get the momentum in our favour. We had a lot of chances and unfortunately we were somehow not able to win most of the long games. We just felt that we were in it but we were not.

We played good. There would be a lot of matches where we play like this and probably win. We were just up against two of the best singles and doubles players in the world. So we had to be a bit better and were not able to convert the opportunities that we had.

Reflection on some of the memories that stand out in Paris

I have been able to win a title here and also reached another final. Even though it is not my most favourite surface, I have had some good memories here. I loved coming back to Paris and playing here. Hopefully I can come back and explore Paris now as we do not get that much time as a Tennis player.

Talk about the fellow Indians whom you played on the tour with.

I was always the only girl. Luckily we were all able to get along well for the most part. Rohan Bopanna and I are close friends to each other and we share pride in each others performances.

We also had Somdev Devvarman and Mahesh Bhupathi in the past. We see each other more than we see each other`s families. It was nice to see each other and also have some Indian meals together end of week and celebrate each others success and support each other.ย

Rohan Bopanna is in the Mens Doubles Semis

I always felt that he has under achieved for the kind of talent he has and the power he generates. I am so happy that Rohan is playing at this level where he is a legit contender for Grand Slam title. As a friend, I am really proud of him.
