Riding a 347-spot surge after her maiden pro title in Lagos, 17-year-old Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi (IND, 726) qualified for the $30,000 ITF W35 Monastir singles main draw on Tuesday with a crisp 6-1, 6-4 victory over 14th qualifying seed and good friend Abigeyle Bhopal (CAN, UNR) on Center Court at Magic Hotel Skanes Family.
From shared training court to final qualifying showdown in Monastir
Tested immediately in Monday’s 2nd qualifying round by France’s Victoire Lansaman (FRA, UNR), 6th seed Rajeshwaran Revathi (IND, 726) overturned a 1-set deficit to prevail 4-6, 6-2, 10-7. That set up a warm final-round meeting on Tuesday morning against 14th seed Abigeyle Bhopal (CAN, UNR), an Indo-Canadian player who had cruised past Great Britain’s Tiana Fox (GBR, UNR) 6-1, 6-2 a day earlier.
Familiar with each other’s games after sharing practice courts on tour—captured in Bhopal’s Instagram post below—Rajeshwaran Revathi settled quickly on Center Court, racing through the opening set 6-1 before edging a competitive 2nd set 6-4 to wrap up her main draw spot in straight sets.
