Vasanti Shinde and Elina Nepliy become the Doubles champions at ITF W35 Mohammedia after an eventful week.
Fresh off a runners-up finish at ITF W35 Casablanca, the duo returned to the court in Mohammedia as second seeds. This time, they went one better, claiming the title in a week that tested their composure at every stage.
Their campaign began with a first-round test against Ksenia Krupenina and Maria Mikhailova. Shinde and Nepliy dropped the opening set 4-6 before levelling and eventually sealing the match in a super tiebreak, 4-6 6-4 [10-7]. It set the tone for the week ahead.
The quarterfinal offered a brief respite. Against Moroccan pair Aya El Aouni and Manal Ennaciri, the pair displayed complete control, winning 6-0 6-4 to advance without complication.
The semifinal brought another first-set setback. Daria Egorova and Ekaterina Perelygina took the opener 6-3, but Shinde and Nepliy regrouped to take the second 6-1 and closed out the super tiebreak 10-6 to reach the final.
Saturday’s final followed a familiar pattern. Martina Colmegna and Federica Sacco edged the first set 6-3, but the second seeds responded to take the second 6-4 and finished the job 10-4 in the super tiebreak.
Three of four matches that began with a first-set deficit settled in a super tiebreak with a win. After the near miss in Casablanca, Shinde and Nepliy made sure there was no repeat this time.
For Vasanti Shinde, this marks her second career doubles title and her first of 2026.
