At just 15 years old, Parthsarthi Arun Mundhe is already making waves on the professional circuit. Following a hard-fought three-set battle against world No. 433 Zuzanna Pawlikowska in the first round of WTA 125 Mumbai qualifiers—falling 7-6(1), 2-6, 3-6—the Pune-based player sat down with Indian Tennis Daily’s Yash to reflect on her performance, her journey from starting tennis at age 8-9, and what lies ahead. Despite the loss, Mundhe’s powerful groundstrokes and fearless mentality showcase why she’s considered one of India’s most promising young talents.
Q: Hi Parthsarthi. Thank you so much for talking to Indian Tennis Daily. Firstly, would like to ask you your thoughts on the match today.
Parthsarthi: It was a good match. I could have pushed myself a little bit more and kept a good body language and tried to be more consistent.
Q: Can you tell us a little about your tennis journey? When did you start? When did you think of becoming professional?
Parthsarthi: I started in Solapur and after like 2-3 years I was playing good so my coach was like let’s play professional so I started playing professional.
Q: And how old were you then?
Parthsarthi: Maybe 8-9 years old.
Q: At just 15 years of age, your shots packed quite a punch. What is your mindset on the court when you play?
Parthsarthi: As you said my mindset is just to play free and keep on hitting the ball and that’s it.
Q: How does a typical training day look for you?
Parthsarthi: My training consists of 3 hours of tennis and 2 hours of fitness. It’s from 8 in the morning till 2 in the afternoon.
Q: Where are you training currently? Who are your coaches and what is your plan for the next few years?
Parthsarthi: I’m playing in Hemant Bendrey Tennis Academy in PYC Gymkhana, Pune. Hemant Sir is the coach there and Narar sir, Yash sir are the other coaches over there and Akshay is my fitness coach.
Q: What’s your schedule like in the coming months? Will you be playing ITF juniors, ITF women’s tournament? What’s your schedule?
Parthsarthi: First I am going to give 10th board exams. After that I am planning to play the J300 Pune.
Q: And lastly, who are your tennis idols–Indian and global?
Parthsarthi: Sumit Nagal, and in women’s Shrivalli Bhamidipaty. Globally I like Sabalenka and Alcaraz.
