Diya Chaudhary on Ghana Success, Grand Slam Dreams, and US College Tennis

Pune, India — Diya Chaudhary, one of India’s promising junior tennis talents, burst onto the national radar with a sensational run of four consecutive finals in Ghana this year. Indian Tennis Daily caught up with Diya in Pune to discuss her season, her ambitious goals for the future, and her unique training setup.

Season Highlights and Review

ITD: You burst into the limelight this year with four back-to-back finals in Ghana. How do you review your season so far?

DC: I mean, last year was pretty good for me, especially the ending (October, November, and December). But this year did not go entirely as planned. But still, I’m trying my best to, you know, keep up with my rankings and all. So, yeah.

ITD: What do you think about the playing conditions here in Pune?

DC: I like the weather. The courts are also, I think, in my favor. The match I played yesterday, it was pretty good.

Training Setup and Future Goals

ITD: Can you share more details about your coaching setup? Where do you train, and who are your coaches and your physio?

DC: I train in Dehradun at the Heritage Tennis Academy, mainly under Mr. Pritam Singh. My physio is Mr. Chombal.

ITD: What are your goals for the next year and the next season?

DC: Next season, you know, I’m hoping maybe to get into the Top 100 [in the ITF Junior rankings] and maybe play the Junior Grand Slams and all. That’s my main goal.

ITD: Is US College tennis a consideration for you after your juniors?

DC: Yeah. After 11th grade, I’m thinking about approaching some colleges and all. Maybe if I can get a good scholarship and a top-tier college, I would definitely consider it.
