Ankita Raina, Riya Bhatia to Lead Indian Challenge in Chennai Open 2025 Qualifiers

India, Tamil Nadu, October 24th, 2025: Four Indian players will feature in the 16-player singles qualifying draw of the WTA Chennai Open 2025, which begins on Saturday at the SDAT Tennis Stadium.

Ankita Raina and Riya Bhatia have received direct entries into the qualifying draw, while
wildcards have been awarded to 20-year-old Vaishnavi Adkar and 16-year-old Diya Ramesh, oneof the country’s top junior prospects.

Raina will open proceedings on Centre Court against fifth seed Mei Yamaguchi of Japan, while
Bhatia will face sixth seed Caroline Wernerger of Germany. Adkar takes on second seed Mai
Hontama, also from Japan, and Ramesh, the third-highest ranked Indian in the world junior
rankings, meets third seed Arina Rodionova of Australia.

Japan’s Nao Hibino headlines the qualifying field as the top seed and will begin her campaign
against Thailand’s Thasaporn Naklo. Players need to win two matches in the qualifying rounds to secure one of the four available spots in the 32-player main draw.

Germany’s Tatjana Maria and Croatia’s Donna Vekic lead the singles main draw, which also
includes three Indian wildcard entrants – Sahaja Yamalapalli, Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, and Maaya
Rajeshwaran Revathi. Czech player Linda Fruhvirtova, who won the Chennai Open title in 2022,
returns to defend her crown.

The main draw ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 25, at 4 p.m. at the SDAT Tennis
Stadium
