Balaji & Reyes-Varela’s Impressive Acapulco Run Ends in Semifinals

Indian-Mexican duo N. Sriram Balaji and Miguel Ángel Reyes-Varela’s spirited campaign at the ATP 500 Abierto Mexicano in Acapulco came to an end in the semifinals, as they fell to the 4th seeded French pair of Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul in straight sets, 6-7(4), 3-6.

Balaji and Reyes-Varela, who entered the tournament as wildcards, had put together an impressive run, taking down strong teams en route to the last four. However, against the experienced French duo, they fell just short in a tight first-set tiebreak before Doumbia and Reboul took control in the second set to seal the victory.

A Strong Tournament Despite the Loss

Despite the defeat, it was a promising showing for Balaji and Reyes-Varela, who had previously notched notable wins in Acapulco. Their chemistry and aggressive net play were on full display throughout the tournament, and their performance signals a strong partnership moving forward.

For Doumbia and Reboul, the victory puts them into the final, where they will have a shot at clinching the title.

While Balaji and Reyes-Varela’s title hopes were dashed, their semifinal finish in a high-profile ATP 500 event will give them confidence heading into the rest of the season.
