Sahaja, Vaishnavi Progress to Round Two at Oasis Solapur Open MSLTA–SDLTA $25K ITF Women’s Tennis

Solapur, December 10: Second-seeded Sahaja Yamalapalli and Vaishnavi Adkar were the two Indian players to advance to the second round of the singles at the Oasis Solapur Open MSLTA–SDLTA $25K ITF Women’s Tennis Tournament. The event is being organized by the Solapur District Lawn Tennis Association (SDLTA) in association with MSLTA and is being held at the MSLTA Tennis Center, Solapur.

Defending champion Sahaja Yamalapalli proved far too strong for qualifier Ishwari Matere, handing her a double bagel with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 win. Meanwhile, Vaishnavi Adkar outplayed wildcard entrant Madhurima Sawant 6-0, 6-1, securing her spot in the round of sixteen.

Among other Indians in action, Thailand’s Bunyawi Thamchaiwat defeated Riya Bhatia 6-0, 6-3. Third-seeded Tiantsoa Sarah Rakotomanga Rajaonah of France was given a tough fight by Pooja Ingale in the first set before prevailing 7-5, 6-2.

In doubles, the Indian pair of Smriti Bhasin and Sravya Shivani Chilakalapudi caused a major upset by defeating the top-seeded duo of Valentini Grammatikopoulou (Greece) and Ekaterina Yashina (Russia) 6-4, 6-2 to enter the quarterfinals.
