Indian tennis star Sumit Nagal is set to make history at the prestigious Rolex Paris Masters, becoming the first Indian to play in the singles event since the legendary Amritraj brothers competed in 1974. This milestone in Paris-Bercy solidifies Nagal’s growing legacy as he continues to break new ground in Indian tennis.
The Paris-Bercy tournament, recognized as the world’s largest indoor tennis event, marks a significant career milestone for Nagal, who will face off in the qualifying rounds with hopes of advancing into the main draw. As he steps onto the courts of this iconic tournament, fans and enthusiasts across India and the world will be rooting for him, with his appearance seen as an inspiring breakthrough for the country’s presence in high-level tennis.
It may be recalled that Nagal’s entry into the tournament was touch-and-go, as he was waiting to see if he would get a chance to play. However, Monfils giving up his wildcard to Arthur Rinderknech opened up a spot in the qualifying draw. The Special Exempt (SE) in the main draw also cleared, given Jakub Mensik, David Goffin and Denis Shapovalov – all failed to win their quarter-final matches in Basel and Vienna last evening.
Nagal will take on 71st ranked Australian Christopher O’Connell today.
