Rolex Shanghai Masters: Yibing Wu Powers Past Sumit Nagal in Straight Sets

China’s Yibing Wu delivered a dominant performance on home soil, defeating India’s Sumit Nagal 6-3, 6-3 in the first round of the Rolex Shanghai Masters. Wu, playing with confidence on the fast Shanghai courts, overpowered Nagal with a barrage of powerful serves and groundstrokes.

Wu’s impressive serving saw him fire 7 aces and rack up 25 winners. His forehand was particularly lethal, averaging 85 mph—one of the highest on the ATP Tour this season, even surpassing Christopher Eubanks’ previous record of 83 mph.

Nagal, making his main draw debut at the tournament, struggled to find rhythm and couldn’t match Wu’s aggressive play. Wu broke Nagal’s serve early in both sets and controlled the match from there, sealing the victory in straight sets.

With this win, Wu advances to the second round, continuing his momentum after a recent Challenger title in Jinan.
