Sweden has gained an early advantage in their Davis Cup tie against India, leading 1-0 after Elias Ymer’s commanding win over Sriram Balaji. Ymer, ranked 238th in the world, comfortably defeated Balaji, a doubles specialist, 6-4, 6-2, to give Sweden the lead. Balaji showed glimpses of brilliance with his serve and volley prowess, but Ymer proved too strong for the Coimbatore-lad who hasn’t played singles on Tour in 2 years now.
The next singles match will see India’s Ramkumar Ramanathan, ranked 332nd, face off against Sweden’s Leo Borg, ranked 603rd. India will need a strong performance from Ramanathan to stay in contention in this crucial tie.
