Following Sumit Nagal’s withdrawal from the upcoming Davis Cup tie against Sweden due to a back injury, 16-year-old Manas Dhamne has been called up as his replacement. The tie will be played on Indoor Hard in Stockholm, Sweden on 14-15 September, 2024.
Dhamne will join the squad as a reserve. The original reserve, Aryan Shah, has been drafted into the playing 5. Other members of the squad include Ramkumar Ramanathan, Sriram Balaji, Niki Poonacha and debutant Siddharth Vishwakarma, with non-playing captain Rohit Rajpal and first-time coach Ashutosh Singh.
Dhamne has been performing well in the tough European clay court circuit lately, with some impressive wins against older and higher ranked European opponents. However, an away Davis Cup tie at age 16 will be an incredibly tough test for the Maharashtra-lad, one that will be closely followed by Indian Tennis fans.
