BREAKING: Sweden Announces Squad for Davis Cup Tie Against India

Stockholm, Sweden – Swedish Davis Cup captain Simon Aspelin has revealed their squad for the upcoming Davis Cup World Group 1 match against India, which will be held at the Royal Tennis Hall in Stockholm on September 14-15. The winner of this crucial tie will secure a spot in the Davis Cup Qualifiers next year, making it a high-stakes event for both teams.

Aspelin expressed his excitement about the team and urged tennis fans to come out and support the squad in person:
“I hope as many people as possible take the opportunity to come and watch the best we have in Swedish tennis. It is a very important match to reach the Davis Cup Qualifiers, so we hope for great support in the stands,” said Aspelin.

Sweden’s Squad Overview

The Swedish team boasts a mix of experience and rising talent, led by 28-year-old Elias Ymer, who will anchor the team in singles. Ymer has consistently performed well in Davis Cup matches and recently showcased his form by qualifying for Wimbledon and playing on the prestigious Centre Court.

Joining him in the singles lineup is 21-year-old Leo Borg, son of the legendary Björn Borg. Leo made headlines earlier this year when he played a competitive match against Rafael Nadal in front of a packed crowd in Båstad. Aspelin praised both players for their efforts in recent months.

The doubles team will be anchored by André Göransson and Filip Bergevi, both of whom have been selected once again for their strong performances. Göransson recently claimed the doubles title in Newport, further solidifying his position as a key player. Aspelin has high hopes for this pairing:
“André Göransson is in fine form and won the title in Newport earlier this year. Together with Filip Bergevi, they make a strong team that we are continuing to invest in. Filip has also had good results on the Challenger tour.”

Making his debut in the Davis Cup squad is 22-year-old Adam Heinonen, who has impressed Aspelin with his consistent performances in both singles and doubles throughout the year. Heinonen shared his excitement about being selected:
“It feels great fun! I’ve had a good year, so this is a nice reward for that. The Davis Cup is something I grew up with and something every player dreams of playing.”
