Second-seeded duo of Rohan Bopanna and Matt Ebden kicked off their US Open campaign with a hard-fought victory, advancing to the second round. Last year’s finalists were tested in their opening match by the Dutch pair of Sander Arends and Robin Haase, but their experience and resilience shone through as they came from behind in the second set to seal the win in straight sets.
After a comfortable first set, Bopanna and Ebden found themselves trailing 4-1 in the second, as Arends and Haase raised their game. However, the Indo-Australian pair showed their trademark fighting spirit, turning the tide to close out the set and match 7-5.
With this win, the pair moves confidently into the second round, where they will face the unseeded team of Roberto Carballes Baena from Spain and Federico Coria from Argentina. Bopanna and Ebden, aiming to go one step further than their runner-up finish last year, will look to maintain their momentum as they eye another deep run in New York.
