Indian Tennis Star Sahaja Yamalapalli Set to Compete in ITF W75 Sumter

SUMTER, South Carolina – Indian tennis player Sahaja Yamalapalli, ranked No. 2 in her home country, is set to make her mark at the ITF W75 event in Sumter, South Carolina. The tournament, held at the Palmetto Tennis Center, has a history of Indian success, with Karman Kaur Thandi reaching the finals last year.

Yamalapalli’s campaign began in the doubles draw, where she partnered with Japan’s Sayaka Ishii. Unfortunately, the duo suffered a straight-set loss (3-6, 3-6) in the first round against the Hong Kong-USA pair of Hong Yi Cody Wong and Jessica Failla.

However, Yamalapalli’s hopes remain high in the singles competition. Seeded fifth, she is set to face a formidable opponent in Charlotte Chavatipon, a player representing the University of Texas Athletics who boasts a career-high junior ranking of World No. 61.

The match promises to be a thrilling encounter between two talented athletes. Yamalapalli, known for her powerful groundstrokes and aggressive style of play, will be looking to leverage her experience and skill to advance in the tournament.
