2nd seeds Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden got their French Open campaign off to a great start with a hard fought 7-5 4-6 6-4 win over the Brazilian pair of Marcelo Zormann and Orlando Luz.
Bopanna and Ebden were cruising as they were a set and a break up, before the Brazilians started playing fearless tennis. The Indo-Aussie pair eventually used their experience to clinch the win.
It’s an important win for the pair given they won just 1 out of their 4 matches on clay coming into Roland Garros. Moreover, they also lost in the 1st round in Paris last year. They will next take on the Sebastian Baez from Argentina and Thiago Seyboth Wild from Brazil.
Interestingly, Bopanna was supposed to square off against India’s No.1 singles player Sumit Nagal in the 1st round, but the pair of Nagal/Ofner withdrew in the eleventh hour. As a result, the pair of Luz/Zormann got entry into the draw as alternates.
