Sumit Nagal Confirms Wimbledon Debut

Will become first Indian in 5 years to compete in singles at Wimbledon

Continuing his brilliant year, Indian tennis star Sumit Nagal is now all set for his Wimbledon main draw debut. Nagal will also soon make his Roland Garros main draw debut on clay.

While grass is not Nagal’s preferred surface, his participation in Wimbledon is significant as it marks the first time in five years that an Indian will compete in the Wimbledon singles draw. The last Indian to do so was Prajnesh Gunneswaran in 2019.

Nagal A Former Wimbledon Junior Champion

Nagal’s history with Wimbledon is notable. He won the Junior Wimbledon Boys’ Doubles title in 2015 with his Vietnamese partner Nam Hoang Ly, becoming only the sixth Indian ever to win a Junior Grand Slam title.

In the professional circuit, Nagal has competed at Wimbledon once before, in the qualifying rounds in 2018, where he lost in straight sets to Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak.

Nagal’s entry into the Wimbledon main draw is a significant milestone in his career and an exciting moment for Indian tennis fans.
