In a showdown bursting with energy and excitement, Rutuja Bhosale and her partner Paige Hourigan stole the spotlight at the W50 Wuning, clinching victory in a pulse-pounding final showdown. The formidable pair dazzled the crowd, turning the court into their personal playground as they navigated through three nail-bitingly close sets.

The Indo-Kiwi duo had just achieved the improbable, saving 3 match points to win their first title together, in a epic super tiebreak tussle over Taiwan’s Cho I-hsuan and Yi Tsen Cho. The final score line: 5-7, 7-6(5), 12-10 hardly does justice to the high-octane drama that unfolded.

In the gripping first set, Bhosale and Hourigan found themselves trailing as their opponents unleashed a barrage of powerful shots. Despite facing a deficit, the duo refused to back down and clawed their way back into contention. The set reached a thrilling climax, with Bhosale and Hourigan narrowly falling short at 5-7.

If the first set belonged to the Taiwanese pair’s firepower, the second was a test of toughness and tactical adjustments. Bhosale and Hourigan opted for a counter-punching approach, absorbing the opponents’ pace and redirecting it with interest. However, the Chinese Taipei pair seized an early 5-2 lead, and also got match point opportunities in the next couple of games. But Bhosale and Hourigan dug in as they mounted an improbable comeback from the brink, to level the set 6-6. The ensuing tiebreak was an explosive affair of gambits and nervy play, ultimately going Bhosale/Hourigan’s way, 7-6(5).

Fittingly, the decider would be a super tiebreak and it proved an absolute epic for the ages. Despite gaining a strong lead of 8-5, Rutuja/Paige found themselves staring at another match point opportunity for the opponents, as the Taiwanese pair turned it around 9-8 in their favour. But Bhosale/Hourigan held their nerves and eventually prevailed in the nail-biting super tiebreak 12-10. It was a moment of sheer joy and celebration as they clinched the title in dramatic fashion, cementing their status as champions of the W50 Wuning event.

Adding this gem to her collection, Rutuja Bhosale now has an impressive record of 23 ITF doubles titles, a glorious validation of her reign as a doubles powerhouse.
