“Rohan, you make me feel like a slacker. I’ve had this job for 6 years but you’re still winning titles” – James Blake, former World No.4 and current Miami Open Tournament Director

Blake is 44 years old, like Bopanna. That’s pretty much what the entire world feels about Rohan Bopanna’s achievements right now. Unbelievable doesn’t cut it. Hear what he had to say after his historic triumph in Miami below –

Q) What’s on your mind right now?

RB – I’d like to congratulate Ivan (Dodig) and Austin (Krajicek). They’re tough opponents to play. All the best for the rest of the season. Secondly, thank you Matt (Ebden). It was a tough match today. A lot of emotions in those three sets, but I am glad we pulled it through. Also, I got to know that last year since we won Indian Wells, and this year we won Miami, so it’s a Career Sunshine Double. It’s something new to have.

Q) You’ve been so impressive on serve the last two weeks. How would you describe that?

RB – It’s very important. Especially with the no ad scoring and super tiebreak. The ball also plays a huge role. The Dunlop Fort balls used here have been excellent this week. Every time I hit the serve, it was extremely accurate. Serve is the only shot you fully control in Tennis. So it’s super important.

Q) Massive year so far. You’re extending your record as the oldest Masters champion. How much do these things want to keep you going?

RB – It’s amazing. As long as we keep doing in the big Masters events and Grand Slams, that’s what we play for. It’s good to keep that record going and give everyone else a run for their money.

Q) Thoughts on the tournament and the crowd

RB – Thanks a lot for coming out guys. Thanks a lot to James (Blake) for putting up such a great tournament.

Q) How would you celebrate the title today?

RB – Not much. I’ll fly to Bengaluru via Germany (laughs).
