Vishaal Uppal, one of Bhamidipaty’s coaches, reflected on the roller coaster of emotions that characterized the past 24 hours leading up to the final. “What a roller coaster 24hrs it has been!” he exclaimed. “After winning the doubles title yesterday, Shrivalli was hospitalized with 103 fever and spent the night in the hospital with an IV attached to her.” Uppal painted a vivid picture of the physical toll Bhamidipaty endured, yet her decision to compete in the final spoke volumes about her character. “She chose to play today and compete in the finals,” Uppal continued. “She fought hard but didn’t have the physical strength to win today, but she showed a lot of character, guts & fight by deciding to step on the court and play!”
