“Now the work really starts” – Sascha Nensel, Sumit Nagal’s coach

Sascha Nensel, coach at the Nensel Academy, shared his joy and pride in his student Sumit Nagal’s accomplishment of reaching the top 100 in the ATP rankings for the first time.

Nensel acknowledged the challenges they faced, stating, “It’s been a long ride, it’s been a tough ride. A lot of injuries were on our way, especially at the end of 2022 after his hip surgery. It was tough to bring him back on the court physically and also mentally.”

He highlighted Nagal’s remarkable improvement, saying, “But he improved during 2023 a lot mentally and also with his tennis. He finished a great season 2023 and it’s been a great 2024 so far.”

Nensel expressed his gratitude to several individuals who played crucial roles in Nagal’s journey:

  • Somdev Devvarman: “He is always on our side, always jumping in when we needed him. He is supporting us, supporting our work and believing in our work. That helps a lot.”
  • Milos Galecic: “Milos Galecic, who did an unbelievable job and had a big impact on Sumit’s success… Milos is one of the few guys who understands the game of tennis as well as a proper tennis coach. That’s why it was easy for us to share weeks. It made it all easier.”

Nensel emphasized the importance of continuous improvement as Nagal transitions from the Challenger Tour to the ATP Tour. He outlined their future goals, stating, “We need wins on the ATP Tour. We need to get fine ATP tournaments. We need to probably try to win one of those tournaments. We need to keep improving and improving the ranking. It’s not stopping right here. Now the work really starts and hopefully the future will be good to us.”

  1. Watching Sumit Nagal play Sonego has been interesting. He seems to have what it takes to shake, rattle and roll some of the other guys inside the top 100 above him. A bit more aggressive style could be what he needs to get him over the speed bumps in his way.
All the best to you guys, keep up the hard work and focus. Hope he stays injury free. Cheers!
