“Maybe it was the Hyderabadi Biryani I had yesterday” – Mukund Sasikumar on the secret behind his 6-1 6-0 win over higher ranked Gill

Wildcard and 457th ranked Mukund Sasikumar put on a masterclass today at the Maha Open ATP Pune Challenger, defeating 344th ranked Felix Gill of Great Britain in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. Mukund looked sharp throughout the match, showcasing his aggressive baseline game and clinical serving.

Dominant Display:

Mukund dominated the match from the outset, breaking Gill’s serve twice in the first set and not dropping a single service game himself. He continued his momentum in the second set, dictating the rallies with powerful groundstrokes and forcing Gill into errors.

Mukund on his performance:

“Maybe from the Hyderabadi Biryani I had yesterday,” Sasikumar joked when asked about the source of his dominant performance. “I didn’t really expect that outcome (6-1, 6-0 score) to be honest. I was pretty confident getting a win going into the match, I was feeling really good in the warm up already. I knew I was going to compete well. Everything went my way. And that’s how Tennis is – anything can happen.”

Looking Ahead:

This win puts Mukund through to the quarter-finals of the tournament, where he will face a tougher challenge against Australian Adam Walton, who won the title at the Burnie Challenger just two weeks ago. However, based on his performance today, he seems to be in good form and will be confident of his chances.
