Karnataka CM Recognizes Bopanna’s Achievement with Rs. 50 Lakh Cash Prize

Tennis star Rohan Bopanna received warm congratulations and a significant prize money following his remarkable victory in the Australian Open men’s doubles alongside partner Matthew Ebden. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced a celebratory Rs. 50 lakh reward, acknowledging Bopanna’s achievement as only the third Indian male to claim a Grand Slam doubles title.

“Delighted to announce a prize of Rs. 50 lakh,” stated Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, hailing Bopanna’s victory as a source of pride for India. Bopanna and Ebden dominated the final against Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori, solidifying their place in tennis history. This win adds to Bopanna’s 2017 French Open mixed doubles triumph with Gabriela Dabrowski, placing him among legends like Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi, and Sania Mirza.

The Chief Minister, joined by other dignitaries, personally congratulated Bopanna and his family. Sharing the news on social media, Siddaramaiah emphasized the importance of supporting sporting excellence.

Bopanna’s achievement sparks conversations about the future of Indian tennis. The nation, known for its strong singles players, finds itself celebrating this doubles success. This raises questions about nurturing diverse talents and fostering a holistic tennis ecosystem. While challenges remain, Bopanna’s victory serves as a powerful reminder of India’s potential on the global tennis stage.
