After having a scintillating week in Tulln, Austria where he upset the 1st seed, 4th seed, and 8th seed, India No.1 Sumit Nagal fell to Czech Republic’s 194th ranked Vit Kopriva 2-6, 4-6. Admittedly so, Nagal was tired after 8 weeks of continuous competition on the demanding ATP Challenger singles circuit.
“First of all, I would like to congratulate Vik for another amazing week. This is his, I guess, second tournament win of the year. Thank you to all the people who came. Sorry I couldn’t perform my best, but nonetheless, a good week for me. It’s been a long, long last eight weeks in a row. So I’m looking forward to going home tonight and having a few days at home before I play Davis Cup. But thank you so much”, said Nagal after the match.
With this run, Nagal moves up to 156th in the ATP Rankings. Still a distance away from the Top 100 landmark. A win in the final would have eclipsed him to the 138th spot. It was still a memorable week for the recently turned 26 year old, the highlight being the straight set win over top seed and 88th ranked Albert Ramos-Vinolas.
