Yuki Bhambri & Saketh Myneni beat the 3rd seeded American pair of Nathaniel Lammons & Jackson Withrow in the Round of 16 6-3 7-6(7-4) to enter the Quarterfinals at the BMW Open by American Express ATP 250 Tennis tournament being held this week in Munich, Germany.
We caught up with them after the game for a short interview where they discuss how they beat the American pair to whom they had lost two months before in Dallas Semifinals.
Q: Could you talk a bit about the match?
Yuki Bhambri: They are tough opponents and we obviously played them in Dallas two months ago in February and we lost a close one. So we knew what it was going to be a tough match again but we were hoping that this time maybe this surface helps us a little bit. The plan was to stay with them and to keep holding our serves and wait for opportunities and I think we we did that well today.
Saketh Myneni: Yuki covered everything. It just had to be a little more like a momentum shot like you know play a little positive from the beginning. We did that like a few months ago also but we didn’t capitalize on the opportunities. They served well and today I was just like you know we have to be solid and be positive. And especially with tiebreaks you know momentum shifts a lot and I thought we started well and we finished up.
Q: Could you tell about what changed between your last match against the same opponents where you lost a close one at the Dallas Open Semifinals?

Yuki: I think we just took our opportunities today when we had. They took them in the match when we played last and and so they won. And doubles always comes down to a few points and that’s when matters and and I think we held our nerve in the end. I think the tie break was really important. We started off well and we kept our momentum and we kept our lead. It came down again to a few points and and that’s how all doubles is. You know when you are able to win those crucial points or capitalize crucial points you’re a winner that day. If not you know you are not winning. But it’s always a few points and we were I think the better team today
Q: One last question, how hard is it to adjust from the clay courts in the US to here?

Both: They are all different.
Saketh: I think the main difference is the temperatures. I think I think the ball behaves definitely in different temperatures. I think when it’s hotter it’s more livelier and when it’s cold it’s much more tough to say. It is all about the preparation you are doing. It is about how composed you are going in to every match that’s why it is important to prepare each and every match in the positive mind.
