Ramkumar Ramanathan made the long trek from Europe to Asia to play singles qualifying in ATP 500 in Tokyo and in main draw of doubles. But, that proved worthwhile as he qualified into main draw with an excellent upset over much higher ranked Elias Ymer in the second qualifying round.
He lost in first round of main draw against local player in 3 close sets and lost in first round of doubles. But, US$20K+ he earned there and 20 ATP singles points made the visit worth it for Ramkumar. He will still need to earn bunch of points in reminder of the year, first of all to stay in top 300 and them try to make it to Australian open qualifying draw.

Rohan Bopanna along with Matwe Middlekoop lost in first round of ATP 500 in Kazakhstan against second seeds.
