At the end of Day 1 of the tie India are behind 0-2 to Norway with both Prajnesh and Ramkumar going down in the singles rubber. Both Rohit Rajpal and Ramkumar have some encouraging words to say at the post match Press Conference.
Thoughts on the match ?
Ram – All credit to Viktor for playing a good match, I think at the end of the day we shouldn’t forget that he played a good match. And coming to myself I honestly felt I didn’t play the way I usually play but as it’s Davis Cup and everything goes. I was struggling with rhythm in the start of the match and you know even those long game in first set during third game when I was serving it put me a little down as I lost the game and I couldn’t get the rhythm back. And that let him start going for his shots and at the end of the day it’s matter of few margins, few points here and there. I think he stayed aggressive and I stayed defensive and that made the difference.
Gameplan coming in and what you could have done differently?
Ram – I just started the way I play maybe I didn’t go so much to the net but the plan was very simple to play the way I always play, come to the net a lot, take my chances. But it was close first couple of games , the first game was 0-30 where I chip and charged and that was a little tricky game. It could have easily changed the momentum of the game, but at the end of the day he played a really good match and I think we should just focus on Day 2 it’s a Davis Cup and anything can happen and we should just focus on each match now.
Looking forward to the doubles match on Day 2 ?
Rohit – I think today was not a good day in the office but tomorrow is a fresh start and a new day so I am certainly looking forward to the doubles match. It’s the Davis Cup it’s not over till it’s over. And we will fight till the end.
Combination and preparations for the doubles match ?
Rohit – So we have got Yuki and Saketh Myneni playing tomorrow. They have done really well in the last few weeks, won few tournaments and given that Rohan was not here this is the best combination we could come up with at the moment, and that’s what are going with.
Any change in strategies after being behind 0-2 ?
Rohit – Yeah we have a game plan B, so we are going to try to implement that tomorrow. But one match at a time so first let’s see what happens in the doubles , only then can we do something different.
What do you think of the Norwegian crowd ?
Ram – They were fine, I thought not these many people will turn up. Because the first day when I ask the guys here they said that the seats are empty , but it was a good crowd and it was very good to play. Obviously if it was in India it would have been better to play for us but we are professionals and we have to take whatever comes and try to perform in best of our abilities. I think we should stay positive and try to give ourselves a chance tomorrow.
