Ramkumar Ramanathan received a wildcard entry to the mixed doubles with French partner Elixane Lechemia. Although the pair lost in straight sets, it was a close match against an experienced pair.
Ramkumar shares his thoughts on the match, how the partnership came about, and more.
Q) How did this partnership come about?
We just signed like half an hour before the deadline and I just told Elixane – “Why not put in a wildcard request as well?” She said – “Yeah, you’re right.” And then she just put it as a request and then randomly I was checking the phone and I got a message from Scotty (Scott Davidoff, Rohan Bopanna’s coach). He told me “Wild card, what’s up?”
I was like that’s great. I was your refreshing the draw every 10-15 minutes just to see if it was true or not. And then you our name was in the draw so and then I said, why not? It was a fun doubles match.
I am thankful to the French Tennis Federation (FFT) for the wildcard.
Q) Talking about the match, how would you analyse it?
It was very close. Just a few points here and there. But it was good fun, good energy. We just have to take the positives. From not getting into doubles, to being able to play three matches. We lost to two good players, having a few chances in the first set. The level is high and I just need to keep working hard.
