ATP Challenger Tour
Ramkumar Ramanathan was the only Indian playing singles at challenger level this week but lots of playes played doubles. Ramkumar had his first singles win of 2022 at a challenger in France with an upset of former top 10 player Fernando Verdasco in first round as Verdasco retired after losing the first set. He followed up with another very good win over Italian Salvatero Caruso against whom he had lost his previous 3 matches. He lost in QF against top seed and top 70 player Benjamin Bonzi in 3 sets.
Ramkumar and Yuki Bhambri also had an excellent upset win over top seeds Hugo Nys and Austin Krajicek in quarter finals. Hugo Nys had won a couple of ATP titles on clay last year and made it to French open quarter finals while Austin Krajicek reached Cincy ATP masters final last year and reached Tokyo olympics semi finals. So, this was real good quality win. But, they could not follow it up and lost in semi final against a local wild card pair.
Our other doubles players lost in first round though.
