Rohan Bopanna & Denis Shapovalov exit in Quarters from ATP 500 Rotterdam Open

After winning the TATA MAHARASHTRA OPEN on Sunday with Ramkumar Ramanathan, Rohan Bopanna moved to Rotterdam where he was scheduled to play doubles alongside his good friend Denis Shapovalov.

In the first round the pair were up against Edouard Roger-Vasselin(FRA) and Andrey Golubev(KAZ). After a shaky start from Rohan & Denis being a break down in the first set they recovered well to grab the first set 6-3 before eventually winning the match in straight sets 6-3 6-4. Post match, Rohan said he was happy to get through the next round as during the first service game he was not able to find the rhythm and got broke.

In the next round they were up against the 4th seed pair of Wesley Koolhof(NED) and Neal Skupski(GBR). After loosing the first set 4-6, the Indo-Canadian pair made a comeback in the second set forcing a Super Tiebreaker. In a close TB, the fourth seeds come out on top eventually winning the match 4-6 6-3 7-10. Rohan and Denis reached semis here in 2020 but were not able to equal that performance this year.

In a post match Interview after the first round, Rohan talked about him hitting with the young Indian sensation Manas Dhamne last week in Pune, also giving him few tips on his movement and game. He added that it didn’t matter to him if he is hitting with a 12y.o or 40y.o. Also on being asked about his partner’s (Denis) interest in Hip-Hop and is there any chance of him joining Denis in the Rap Game, he laughed at the thought and said singing is his personal forte .

Rohan Bopanna will partner Aslan Karatsev of Russia in the ATP DUBAI Open 500. And he will also play ATP 250 QATAR Open with Denis Shapovalov next week.
