Thoughts on the match
It was a very close match – I played my heart out and tried to stay as close to him as possible.
There were a few chances for me with 5-5 30-30 and then also in the 6-5 game, I was a bit unlucky with my serves as they missed narrowly which costed me the set and the match.
Overall – we all came in early, practiced a lot, tried to prepare as good as we can on this indoor surface, we have also been playing a lot of tournaments – I gave it my best but could not get the win for the team.
In 2018 – India came back from 0-2 down against China to defeat them with 3 wins on the second day. Any inspiration you can take from that tie.
We are going to give it our best. It is Davis Cup – rankings do not matter beyond a point. We have Bopanna who is really experienced. He has been guiding us as much as he can – both on and off the court. We have the added support from administrators like Anil Dhupar and Sunder Iyer Sir.
Going back to the China match – We had a really tough first day but I remember very well on how we fought back on the second day. Myself and Praj played amazing matches. Things can change – it is possible, there is always a chance.
We are going to listen to Bopanna, he has the experience. We are going to sit down tonight, talk through, find a way to win.
