Davis Cup – Sumit, Ramkumar give India 2-0 lead against Pakistan

It was a breeze on day one for the Indian team at the indoor courts in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, with Ramkumar Ramanathan and Sumit Nagal coming through in extremely one-sided victories against the weakened Pakistani outfit.

While Ramkumar warmed up with a 42 minute 6-0 6-0 win over their player-captain Muhammad Shoaib, Sumit Nagal came through in a 1h 4m 6-0 6-2 win over H. Rehman.

This was Sumit Nagal’s first victory in Davis Cup competition for India, while Ramkumar improved his Davis Cup record to 8-7. Leander Paes and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan are set to seal the deal for India in the doubles rubber tomorrow.

The winner of this tie takes on Croatia in Croatia in the World Group Playoffs tie in March.
