Nagal Defeats Seongchan Hong to Enter Asian Games Round of 16

Sumit Nagal advanced to the third round of the men’s singles at the Asian Games with a 6–4, 6–0 win over South Korea’s Seongchan Hong.

His next opponent will be Uzbekistan’s Sergey Fomin, who booked his place with a 6–1, 6–1 victory over Tajikistan’s Somon Amonov. Fomin is ranked 289 in singles and is 9th seed.

A rematch after Indian Wells

Nagal’s win over Hong also reverses their previous meeting at the 2024 Indian Wells qualifying, where Hong came back from a set down to win 2–6, 6–2, 7–6(4).

Nagal leads Fomin 2–0

Nagal has won both of his previous meetings with Fomin:
2023 Troisdorf Challenger qualifying: Nagal won 6–1, 6–1.
2026 Chișinău Challenger, first round: Nagal won 6–4, 6–2.

With a 2–0 head-to-head advantage over Fomin, Nagal now looks to continue his Asian Games campaign and move closer to the medal rounds.
