WTA 600 Vaidehee Chaudhari has racked up 9 wins in a row. After winning the ITF W35 singles title in Solapur last week, she is now through to the final at W15 Ahmedabad. She won 6-4 6-4 against Japan’s Mana Kawamura today.
She caught up with ITD after her match today for a chat. Excerpts below:
Q) Hi Vaidehee. Congratulations for a very, very well deserved win. Thank you. So, uh, what are your thoughts on today’s match?
VC – Actually the match was really hard, really nice. She played really well. She was very solid from the baseline putting all the balls in. But the main thing was I played really well on the crucial points. So that was the main change in this match.
Q) You had a fantastic last week. So what were your thoughts on the W35 Solapur win last week?
VC – Yeah, definitely ending the year, with the winning trophy. It’s a great thing. The three matches I played like the three sets. The first set I was losing and then I was coming back and I was winning two sets. So the week was really hard for me.
I was a bit tired because I also played in the Delhi previous week and then I was runner up in doubles from coming back from there. And first was I played against Soha and it was good match, I played really well.
And then the second round was really tough. I played three sets, first set I lost and then winning two sets back to back and same goes to the other three matches. So yeah, I was really happy after so long time. I won the 35 title. Great.
Q) Playing three consecutive weeks in a row isn’t easy. How did you manage it from the recovery perspective?
VC – Actually great thing is I was traveling with my parents. So everywhere where I was traveling, we were staying in the apartment. So my mom always used to cook and so I can spare some times in the recovery. And also that was the main thing because traveling three different, different states and also it’s a big thing.
Q) Now what are your plans and focus areas for 2026?
VC – Only one goal is to play Asian Games.
Q) Your friendship with Shrivalli (Bhamidipaty) is much talked about. We’d like to know a little more about it. How did it begin and how has it evolved over the years?
VC – Yeah, good question. Actually. We both have same personality. We both are very shy for some strangers. And if we don’t know any person, so we don’t talk.
So even we both used to cross a path. We were like, I don’t know you, you don’t know me. We don’t like we don’t talk each other even if we see each other still. So. But once we like thought let’s play doubles.
So our first doubles was in Kazakhstan. So we played there and we played really well. So we did semi finals over there so everything was working out so we thought let’s continue this year. Let’s play together this year.
So we played and it was working really well. We won few titles in the year so even every year we were like let’s continue with the year. Let’s continue like renewing the contract like that. So we were growing more solid even on court and off court both.
