PUNE, December 3, 2025 — The Gadre Marine MSLTA – ITF Grade 3 Junior Tennis Championships witnessed a major upset today as the unseeded Gautam Venkatraman of India displayed exceptional grit and skill to knock out the tournament’s top seed and local favorite, Arnav Paparkar, in a thrilling quarterfinal match at the Deccan Gymkhana Tennis Courts.
The three-set epic was the highlight of the day, with both players trading powerful strokes and momentum shifts. Venkatraman, with his tall frame and aggressive play, recovered from dropping the first set to secure the victory: 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. The match lasted over two hours, cementing Venkatraman’s place in the Boys’ Singles semifinal round.
“Gautam played high-quality tennis and showed tremendous composure to overcome the top seed in such a demanding match,” noted a tournament official. “His performance is a testament to the rising talent in the junior circuit.”
🇮🇳 Indian Girls Continue Upset Streak
The upsets weren’t limited to the boys’ draw, as two Indian girls continued their formidable run:
- Parthsarthi Mundhe maintained her giant-slaying form, eliminating the seventh seed Dinara De Silva of Sri Lanka in another three-set battle, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
- Harsha Oruganti also secured her semifinal berth by defeating the fifth seed Kseniia Akhrameeva of Russia in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
They will join the top two seeds, Albina Kakenova of Kazakhstan and Diya Ramesh of India, in the Girls’ Singles semifinals.
